Insect cell expression system (also known as the baculovirus expression system, BEVS) is a widely used eukaryotic system. It has the ability of post-translational modification (PTM) and to transfer foreign proteins similar to most higher eukaryotes.
On top of the basic protein expression function, the newly developed Baculovirus Surface Display Technique and BacMam Gene Delivery Technology have revealed BEVS' advantages in the field of biomedical including protein interaction research, antibody and vaccine development, gene therapy, drug targeted delivery, etc. Up to now, the system has successfully expressed a variety of recombinant proteins, including protein drugs, antibodies, human and veterinary vaccines. The protein level can be as high as 1-500 mg/L.
