Drosophila expression system

Overexpression of recombinant proteins in cultured cells is still a convenient way to mass-produce proteins. The limitations of bacterial, yeast and mammalian protein overexpression systems promote the development of insect cell systems.

Drosophila expression system

In contrast to the transient, baculovirus-assisted overexpression of recombinant protein in insect Sf 9 cells, Schneider's embryonic Drosophila cell line 2 (S2 cells) could be used for transient, stable and inducible culture. A variety of recombinant proteins can be expressed by using specially designed vectors for protein expression in Drosophila melanogaster. Creative BioMart can provide a variety of protein expression as well as cell line construction services based on the S2 cell culture. For clients who are interested in our services, please browse the description below for more information.

Features of S2 Expression System

In addition to all the advantages of the Sf9 cell system, the S2 system has additional advantages.

  • The culture condition is simple. The S2 cell line can be easily maintained at room temperature without the need for an incubator with CO 2 supply.
  • S2 cells can grow abundantly in the medium, and they also have an effective silencing mechanism (RNAi).
  • The S2 cell system supports the constitutive, inducible and transient expression of proteins.
  • The inducible vector of the system allows the regulation of gene expression and can be used to produce a large number of proteins for protein crystallography research.
  • The S2 cell genome can be modified by a binary expression system.
