Bacillus megaterium expression system is a successful prokaryotic heterologous protein expression  system, which can be secreted and expressed. The system has the potential to substitute the E. coli expression system. Unlike other bacilli strains, proteolytic degradation by alkaline proteases is avoided in the Bacillus megaterium system. The expression level of this system is very ideal, and it can accumulate up to 30% of total soluble protein. Under the strict control of xylose operon, the gene can be induced 130-350 times without protein hydrolysis.
