Description
Human Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) is composed of 53 amino acids and contains three intramolecular disulfide bonds. Upon binding to its specific cell surface receptor, EGFR, EGF triggers a series of intracellular biochemical reactions: it increases intracellular calcium ion levels, promotes glycolysis, and enhances protein synthesis. Furthermore, it stimulates DNA synthesis and cell proliferation by upregulating the expression of specific genes, such as EGFR itself.
