Description
Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF), a member of the FGF family also known as FGF-7, is a cytokine discovered by Rubin et al. (1989) in the culture supernatant of embryonic lung fibroblasts. KGF is secreted by mesenchymal cells and its receptors are located on epithelial cells, making it a potent and specific growth factor for epithelial cells. Its mitogenic activity is primarily observed in keratinocytes, and it specifically promotes the proliferation, migration, and differentiation of epithelial cells. It is closely associated with various processes, including organ development, wound repair, tumorigenesis, and immune reconstruction.
