Description
Transferrin is the primary iron-binding and transport molecule in serum. An iron delivery vehicle is required in serum-free cell culture systems. Transferrin is the preferred form for iron delivery because cells process transferrin-bound iron in a physiologically relevant manner via transferrin receptors on the cell surface.
